Look. I'm quirky, I say things off the top of my head, and I like Parker Posey. But, I'd preordered this, and I just had such a hard time getting through it. And, I rarely give below a 4 rating (because if I can get through it, and there aren't glaring issues, I know the author worked hard...) I just could not with this one. I'm going to try again, because truth: I couldn't finish the last third. I like her, I want to like this. That said, I read every review written thus far, thinking maybe I was way off the mark. I've noticed a couple reviewers felt her personality came through in the audio version. So if I had to give some advice, I'd say this didn't seem to translate well into the written word, but the audio might be much better.

Beautifully written, candid, insightful memoir by someone who has been in the trenches of independent cinema and now in the avant-garde of autobiographical writing. A collection of delightful itineraries in New York, Berlin, Vancouver, Louisiana rendered in Parker Posey's inimitable style. Who wouldn't take up an invitation to see the world through her eyes? And for those of us who are averse to flying on airplanes, here is a witty, eloquent, and endlessly imaginative voice to keep one company in the air. But above all, a timely dose of empathy and perceptivity. Cheers to a life that's left an indelible mark in movie history, and a heart-swelling chronicle of being human.
I’ve loved her work over the years. She adopted a very creative approach to writing a memoir. I would have expected nothing less. But it didn’t work for me. I got through it but just barely.
I have always been a fan of Posey and thought I would enjoy this book, and I did, but I had hoped to enjoy it more. I did laugh and smile a lot and overall it was entertaining. I found it disappointing that she writes of her experiences with Louis CK and Woody Allen, but stops short of taking a position or view when it comes to more recent news about them ( ...so why bother?). Good for a plane ride (indeed) or beach read when you want to pass the time but keep it lite.
i love love love Parker Posey, i have even met her charming wonderful self at exercise class, but this book is unreadable, she sounds like an idiot scatter brain. I had trouble getting past the first chapter. Sorry ms. Posey, but I await your next calling which hopefully is a comedy about your life in the business, much like Pamela Adlon's Better Things...you two should help each other and get rid of that creep Louis CK. I am certain you have funny very timely stories to tell.
I could NOT put this book down. Entertaining, honest, witty, kooky and so so real. All the reasons you love her work times a zillion. An honest look at celebrity, human connection, big laughs and even some recipes. Highly recommend.
If you love Parker Posey and her movies, do not read. This book will make you hope you never sit next to her on a plane. Or in a restaurant. Or anywhere.
I’ve always loved Parker Posey for her eccentricities as an actress and her genuine charisma. But she is not a writer and her observations of her life and the lives of those around her never transcends the anecdotal level. The book is disjointed and I found myself constantly looking at my progress to determine just how much longer I would need to spend in this purgatory. I still love her as an actress but I would encourage others who feel the same to pass on this book. Take another flight.
